Our Mission

The Mission of ICS-K is to provide state of the art education that meets international standards through a holistic integration of academic, physical, social, spiritual and moral training, raising a new generation of leaders who are productive members of their communities and have a broader vision for the World.

History

International Community School in Kumasi (ICS-K) opened its door to the public in January 1999 with Dr. Charles Yeboah and his wife, Matilda Yeboah, as its founders. Just four months earlier, after spending seven years in the United States, they had returned with their two young daughters to their homeland of Ghana. One of the challenges they faced when moving back to Kumasi was finding quality education for their eldest daughter, who had been enrolled in primary school in the U.S. They wanted her to be able to continue with the same level of education that she had received there.

After several discouraging searches, they found nothing in Kumasi that offered the same quality of education. Dr. Yeboah and his wife, who is a professional teacher with training from Ghana and the U.S., then decided that the best contribution that they could make to the city of Kumasi would be to establish a school where children could get the best possible education. They set out to start a school that would offer the same type of education that children in Europe and North America receive.

They began purchasing computers and school equipment/supplies and setting up many partnerships with schools and organizations in the US and Europe. They organized a group of American teachers to spend several weeks in Kumasi to share the latest educational research and to provide training for Ghanaian teachers in the newest methodologies for teaching young children. The Yeboah’s believe that if Africa is going to be able to compete in the future, it is imperative that the children are equipped with the skills necessary to face the challenges of tomorrow.
